“I was the Architect for major alterations and additions to a residence in Bronte which was constructed by Richard Siltala of SILTALA Constructions.

Richard Cole Architecture designed and documented the project. Construction required major renovation of the existing building including demolition of the existing building, excavation to a new level below the existing house, excavation and underpinning of the existing structure, a two storey timber and masonry construction with steel and timber framed upper floor and a steel framed tiled roof. The site was steep and difficult with no vehicular access. The building features a high level detailing and required exact tolerances and finishes. An example of this is the exposed steelwork and timberwork of the verandah, the custom sandstone cladding to the lower ground floor, the retention of original finishes for the duration of the project and the high level of detailing of joinery and finishes throughout.

SILTALA Constructions proved to be professional, organized and conscientious builders throughout the project. Richard Siltala and his team displayed an enthusiasm and dedication to their work that is rare in the construction industry. They have an excellent team of skilled and professional sub-contractors and maintain a happy and well organized site.

Richard Siltala was able to resolve difficult construction problems with a high degree of ingenuity. Richard also showed a strong understanding of the design intent and was dedicated to the resolution and implantation of fine detailing.

The construction was completed in a timely manner and without excessive variations.
